Arsenal have confirmed the contract's extension with their manager Mikel Arteta until the 2024/25 season. Arteta began his stint with Gunners in 2019 after serving as assistant coach to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City since 2016. The 40-year-old coach is optimistic about the future with the London-based team and wants to take them back to the UEFA Champions League football. “I’m excited, grateful and really, really happy today,” Mikel said after signing the extension. "When I spoke to Josh he could see the club at the same point and he wanted to take the club the way I wanted to do it. So everything that he’s said, and that Stan has said when I’ve been together with both of them, they’ve always delivered. “We want to take the club to the next level and to compete really with the top teams. In order to do that, we have to be playing in the Champions League. We have to be able...

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Sabelo Radebe is confident that his side will be able to beat Mamelodi Sundowns when the two clash in the DStv Premiership on Sunday. Amakhosi and Masandawana will combat for pride taking into account that Sundowns won the league last week with four games to spare. On the other side, the Glamour Boys' hope to end the season as runners-up still lives as they're just three points away from the second-placed Royal AM. Radebe is aware that Downs won't let them walk in the park but believes that they will come out victorious. “It’s not going to be an easy game, that’s one thing we know for sure. I know they have already won the league, but they won’t relax regarding their pride and dignity. But with the preparations on our side, we will be able to face and beat them,” Radebe told the press. "It's going to be a very tough game. We are prep...

Photo by Reuters  SAFA Head of Referees Abdul Ebrahim has praised Victor Gomes and Zakhele Siwela who were part of the Africa Cup of Nations final officials. In what was tagged by many as one of the best Africa Cup of Nations finals ever that saw Senegal triumphing over Egypt had challenging moments for Gomes. Gomes became the first South African referee to officiate the AFCON final and had an incident that went viral globally when he offered his whistle and cards to a complaining Mohamed Salah to officiate. "We were more than just impressed we were happy and were extremely proud," Ebrahim tells  KickOff. "Watching the game it was just amazing to see how professional they were. "I mean Senegal versus Egypt is a massive game on the African continent. "It requires match officials that have a big match temperament. I don't think this Afcon final could have asked for more. "Thi...

The PSL January transfer window is coming to a halt as it closes in the upcoming Monday. Unlike June, mid-season window isn’t too busy, however, some big signings were made by teams like Mamelodi Sundowns who surprisingly secured the 34-year-old Surprise Ralani from Cape Town City. Teboho Mokoena has been in the interest of Masandawana for quite some time now and has finally landed in Chloorkop in a three and a half contract with a one year option to extend. Mhango says he wants to show the fans a “new Gabadinho Mhango”

Image
It feels like AFCON took place to make or break Gabadinho Mhango considering all the pressure on him as one of the Malawian squad’s leaders and proving wrong those who behold him a failure at Orlando Pirates.   Scoring three goals for a team that was underdogs in almost all games they played in the tournament proved him a ruthless talisman and Pirates couldn’t hold themselves but extend his stay at the club. Chatting to Thomas Mlambo on the Ultimate Sports Show, Mhango stated that he wants to show the fans a “new Gabadinho Mhango”. “That was also my concern because other players were playing ahead of me and you must play for your contract,” he told Thomas Mlambo on the Ultimate Sports Show. “I never got my chance for me being part of the team. But I think the team believes that I can still do better and when I went to the office and they communicated that they would renew my contract I was happy. “I think this contract is going to make a difference for me to be the new ...

DStv Premiership Big Match Preview: Mamelodi Sundowns vs Orlando Pirates

Image
Photo Cred - Soccer Laduma, Peter Shalulile battling for a ball with Thulani Hlatshwayo This question keeps on being posed, "Who's going to stop Mamelodi Sundowns?" They're only one team that hasn't lost a league match in PSL this season. They're in a rich vein of form that no one can match currently in the league. Masandawana are 15 points clear at the summit of the log with 40 points, the chasing pack should be demoralized. Andile Jali has been bossing the midfield against all opponents they've faced so far. The return of center-back Rushine De Reuck and defensive midfielder Rivaldo Coetzee from injuries has strengthened the defense.  This season's signing Grant Kekana has found a niche as De Reuck partner and seems faultless thus far. Bafana Ba style are rarely attacked as they possess the ball more, hence their wing-backs Lyle Lakay and Thapelo Morena always add numbers offensively.  The attacking midfielder Sphelele Mkhulise has found his form and...

DStv Premiership match preview: SuperSport United vs Kaizer Chiefs

Image
Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United will be battling in a DSTV Premiership match Photo Credit - Soccer Laduma Following a four-match winless run in the league, Kaizer Chiefs unexpectedly hammered Chippa United 4-0 last week. The last time they bagged four goals in a league match was in 2018 when they triumphed 4-1 over Cape Town City. Does this mean they've suddenly topped their game? Some may agree but I beg to differ. Chiefs' attack was clinical on the day but the team wasn't balanced. Chippa had so much space to move the ball despite not creating many goalscoring opportunities. Chiefs vs Chippa stats (According to Flashscore) •Ball possession: Chiefs (45%) - Chippa (55%) •Completed passes: Chiefs (273) - Chippa (346) •Goal attempts: Chiefs (8) - Chippa (19) •Dangerous attacks: Chiefs (55) - Chippa (86) The score wasn't the true reflection of the game. Against Chilli Boys, Chiefs started with Nkosingiphile Ngcobo in the midfield replacing Cole Alexander. It was an...
